Lake Manyara National Park Safari
Experience the essence of a Lake Manyara on the Best Tanzania Africa Safari 5 Days, where the primary attraction, the tree climbing lions typically remains elusive near the park entrance.
As you venture into the initial stretch of the northern woodland, witness its lush greenery dominated by baboon troops; keep an eye out for blue monkeys amidst the lively scene. The lake’s northernmost tip reveals a captivating hippo pool, while the floodplains deeper within host a dynamic mix of wildebeest, buffaloes, and zebras.
The slender acacia belt tracing the lakeshore becomes the prime location for encountering the world renown tree climbing lions on the 5 day Tanzania safari. Imagine the awe of gazing up into the branches of an acacia tree to find a lioness, a majestic male, or an entire lion family staring right back at you. While glimpses of lions in lower tree branches can occasionally be witnessed in the Serengeti, Lake Manyara National Park uniquely offers consistent opportunities for such extraordinary sightings. Although the sight of a lion in a tree is not guaranteed, the knowledge that they might be there adds an extra layer of excitement to every wildlife drive.
Much more to the tree climbing lions, Lake Manyara’s elephants have been subjects of study since the 1970s, and the park’s high elephant densities make it nearly certain to encounter these magnificent creatures, often in big herds.
For vivid and captivating narratives about Lake Manyara’s lions and elephants, delve into Peter Matthiessen’s 1971 masterpiece, “The Tree Where Man Was Born,” which provides some of the most memorable descriptions of these remarkable creatures in their natural habitat.
